I’m listening to the Goblin Emperor audiobook again while I finish knitting my dad’s Christmas present, because this book is comfort food for me. It’s slow, and sometimes long periods of time go by between moments of connection between the characters, but those moments really feel earned because of it.
Also, the beginning of this book from Csevet’s perspective is Wild. You’re a member of the generally scorned profession of couriers, and you’re sent to tell the new emperor he’s emperor; he shows up barefoot, mussed and harried by his awful cousin, commandeers your return airship, and then INVITES YOU UP TO SEE THE SUNRISE
AND THEN LEANS IN AND DROPS FORMALITY TO ASK FOR YOUR NAME
and it really just. keeps going from there.

Date: 2018-12-24 04:24 am (UTC)Ooh nice! I haven't quite got the hang of knitting while reading — podcasts and audiobooks, definitely, TV shows, yes, but things that are solely visual give me trouble. (Also, speaking of fiber arts, do you have a Ravelry account? I want to friend absolutely everyone on Ravelry, haha.)

Date: 2018-12-24 06:19 am (UTC)I think I treat fibre arts + reading the same way I treat having multiple tabs open in a browser--ie, I switch back and forth. Doing both literally at once doesn't work because I only have one pair of eyes, but doing just the crafting can get a bit boring! (Too deaf for audiobooks etc, sadly.)
I miiiiight have a Ravelry account but if so I haven't used it in long enough that I...am not certain it exists. You could try nenya_kanadka (with or without the underscore, or with a hyphen instead?) though! That tends to be me most places.
