Yuletide recs: belated part 2
Jan. 2nd, 2019 05:41 pmGot distracted before AO3 came back up and forgot to write the rest of this post!
Nat Geo — Kraven takes Doreen to a National Geographic gala. Short and funny, with good cameos.
grapes on the autumn table — Lovely prose! Non-miserable Baru/Tain Hu! I read it, like, lying in bed the morning after Christmas getting ready to get up, and it had a very positive effect on my mood and made me feel cozy as hell. :)
On the Ice — Missing scenes good. Also, Moby Dick!
Something New in the Same Face — Post-book fix-it where Estraven survives. Estraven POV on getting together with Genly; I love Estraven's perspective on how weird humans are, as always. Very sweet, also NSFW.
Circadian Rhythms — Murderbot is worried that Dr. Mensah isn't sleeping well. A lot of the Murderbot fic had spot-on first person Murderbot narration, and this is a great example of those.
Friends Don't Help Friends Murder People — Murderbot meets an alien cat. Mild shenanigans ensue. Same as above re: voice.
Five Times Murderbot and ART experienced anxiety (and one time they didn’t) — ART and Murderbot write Star Trek fanfiction! What more could you want?
Separation Anxiety — The gang takes a boat. Just great ensemble dynamics for Stephen & Crane & Merrick & Jenny. And it's funny!
As a Shrike to Your Thorn — Urban fantasy-ish retelling of Ocean's 8, + a textual romance plot between Lou and Debbie. I mostly enjoyed the reinterpretation of everyone to fit the setting.
baubles of stolen kisses — "Sex therapy the Shuos way," a.k.a., Mothdao has an actually healthy and pleasant sexual encounter post-books. Very good, and atypically hopeful for the setting. Watch the rating, obviously.
