assorted creative endeavors
Jan. 12th, 2019 07:49 pmHere is a life update on a selection of Things I Have Done despite spending most of my time packing, studying, or worrying about packing and studying!
1. I wrote some A Series Of Unfortunate Events fic! Like I said, I finished the third season of the Netflix show last week and I was .... conflicted. Now that I've recovered from Lemony Snicket making me cry, I have dealt with some of these feelings through writing:
place daturas on my grave, 414 words, gen, mostly about Kit Snicket being sad during Penultimate Peril/The End. (Let her cry, Netflix! For fuck's sake! Stop stealing all the interestingly fucked-up female characters and replacing them with ~~sexy sporty spies~~!)
This gets a special mention for being the first fic I've posted on AO3 where people have told me it made them cry. :')
2. Working on digital painting! I've been realizing more and more lately that all of my sketching and practicing and idle art activities have been focused on line and shape, and that I really really need practice with color and value and stuff. (Okay, it was just the one painting so far, but I'm happy with it.)

Ref'ed from this picture. It's not perfect, but it's something! :)
3. New knitting project! There isn't much of it yet, but it's coming along gorgeously. The colors of the Malabrigo Arroyo are just (chef's kiss), as is the pattern. The pink is a provisional cast-on, lol.

The only thing I'm worried about is that the slipped stitch border seems to.. like.. pull? Like it naturally wants to be a shorter length than the rest of the piece. Hopefully it'll be fine??

Haven't read ASOUE in years but the "If she had a datura for Jacques, and one for Lemony, and another for each of the people she had lost, she could fill a room with them" line hit like a truck. I don't know enough about knitting to comment much on that front alas, but what good colors

Date: 2019-01-20 03:40 pm (UTC)The first season of the Netflix series got me back into ASOUE and I really enjoyed coming back to it as an adult — it's *so* sad and *so* funny, and despite being written to be comprehensible for a younger audience, it pulls off the most interesting stylistic stuff. *u* (And then the later Netflix seasons kept some of the stylistic stuff and threw out a lot of the bleak tone grumble grumble ok this is not the place) I'm glad you liked the fic!
All the Malabrigo colors are soooooo pretty.
